SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga men's cross country and track head coach Pat Tyson announced the signing of Oregon prospect Mason Kissell to a National Letter of Intent Tuesday, the second incoming freshman runner to sign with the Zags for this upcoming fall season.
Mason Kissell | Bend, Ore. | Summit High School
A district champion in cross country, Kissell was the 21st overall finisher at Oregon's 6A State Championships in 2021 to lead Summit to a sixth-place finish in the team score. Kissell boasts personal bests of 4:01.83 in the 1500m, 9:18.67 in the 3200m, and a 15:22 cross country 5K. With a 4.3 weighted GPA at Summit, Kissell intends to study engineering at GU.
"I picked Gonzaga because when I visited the school, I felt a strong connection to the coaches and the team and felt that it was a place where I could be very successful athletically and academically," Kissell said.
Tyson on Kissell: "I love having Mason Kissell join the Zags. Mason is going to develop into a very good runner for us — he has the talent to really grow and help Zag XCTF, and he has all the tools that fit what Gonzaga athletics is all about. Winning in the classroom, winning in the community and winning on the course and on the oval."
