SAN MATEO, Calif. — Gonzaga men's and women's cross country had six named to the West Coast Conference's All-Academic lists — including a First Team honor for Kristen Garcia — with three GU women's runners and two GU men's runners named to the honorable mention list Thursday.
Garcia, who picked up her second consecutive All-WCC finish (7th, 20:30.6) at conference championships in the fall and qualified for NCAA Nationals as an individual, touts a 3.57 cumulative GPA while majoring in Political Science. This is the second year in a row that Garcia has been named to both the All-WCC and All-Academic teams.
Alicia Anderson, Alyssa Bienfang and Makenna Edwards all picked up honorable mention nods of their own on the women's side, while Kyle Radosevich and Ben Hogan made the list for the men.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the West Coast Conference selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
In January, both programs were recognized as All-Academic teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), with three GU runners recognized as All-Academic Athletes. The Gonzaga men finished the semester with a 3.43 cumulative GPA, while the women had a 3.6 cumulative GPA. Cullen McEachern (Business Administration), Wil Smith (Human Physiology) and Garcia (Political Science) were named USTFCCCA All-Academic as individuals.
