SPOKANE, Wash. -- Today marked the end of the Gonzaga Hidden Duel fall tournament for the Gonzaga women's tennis team. The Zags finished with an overall match record of 16-11 during the tournament. The Zags will build upon this excellent start to the fall season when they participate in the Cal Fall Invite, which runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1.
Starting with the doubles competition, Gonzaga's Tiegan Aitken and Jenna Sloan earned an excellent 6-3 court two victory over Portland's Meagan Pearson and Alaia Rubio Perez. In similar fashion, Gonzaga's Cate Broerman and Adrianna Sosnowska defeated Portland's Rimona Rouf and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic 6-3 on court one. In the most competitive match of the doubles competition, Gonzaga's Maria Frampton and Caroline Wernli clinched a 7-5 win over Portland's Smilia Matovic and Kylie Canubida in the No. 1 spot.
Transitioning to the singles competition, Wernli dominated in her 7-5, 6-0 victory against Washington State's Fifa Kumhom. In spot No. 4, Washington State's Elyse Tse defeated Aitken 7-6, 6-3. Battling against Sloan on court three, Washington State's Eva Alvarez won her singles match 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets.
On court six, Washington State's Stefaniia Mikhailova earned a back-and-forth 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Frampton. In similar fashion, Sosnowska earned a comeback victory against Washington State's Yura Nakagawa, by the scores of 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. In one of the most competitive matches of the entire tournament, Broerman defeated Washington State's Maxine Murphy 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 on court one.

Today's action concludes the Gonzaga Hidden Duel tournament. The next tournament for the Gonzaga women's tennis team will be in Berkeley, California, when they participate in the Cal Fall Invite. The Zags return to the Stevens Center on Oct. 28th, when they perform in the Gonzaga Invitational tournament.
