SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's rowing team continued their spring season at home with a dual on Silver Lake this morning against the No. 17 ranked Oregon State University.

"It was really solid racing in all boats," head coach Dan Gehn said. "We had a lot of novices in our 3rd and 4th boats, so that was a great first race for them."

The Zags kept it close with the Beavers in the 1V8 race and took second with a time of 5:53.29 while Oregon State took first with a time of 5:51.82.

"The V8 rowed a great race leading off the start and pushing out at times to a half a length lead," Gehn said. "The OSU battled back and came even at the start of the last 500. They got up about 3-4 seats and held that margin through the sprint."

During the 2V8 race, it was tight until the end as the Zags finished second at 5:59.32 close behind first place OSU at 5:59.21.

"The JV race was tight all the way down the course with GU leading for the first 1500 meters and then the boats running even for the last 500," Gehn said. "OSU poked their bow out on the last stroke and won by about two feet."

In the 3V8 race, the Bulldogs took second at 6:28.21 behind OSU's time of 6:09.55. The 4V8 race ended with the Zags in second at 6:27.1 and OSU in first with a time of 6:13.4.

Up Next: The Bulldogs travel to Mission Bay, California to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic on April 1st and April 2nd.
