CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs men's rowing team traveled to California to compete in the first annual UC San Diego Invitational starting this Saturday. The field included University of California San Diego and Santa Clara.

"Getting three races here on good water against conference opponents is invaluable," head coach Dan Gehn said. "All three boats competed well today, but the Varsity 8 had a great race this afternoon coming from a half-length down in the last 600 meters to win by a second."

In the morning 1V8 race, the Zags took second with a time of 5:56.4 while UCSD took first at 5:52.9.
 
Gonzaga took second in the 2V8 race with a time of 6:02.17 behind UCSD at 5:59.17. Santa Clara took third at 6:15.57.
 
The Zags 3V8 boat competed and took fourth at 6:15.47 while SAC 3V took first at 6:08.37, SCU 4V took second at 6:09.47 and UCSD took third at 6:14.87. 
 
In the afternoon 1V8 race, the Zags placed first in a close race with a time of 6:01.9. Santa Clara took second at 6:02.9.
 
During the afternoon 2V8 race, the Zags placed second at 6:13.89 behind UCSD at 6:10.09. SCU took third at 6:19.59.
 
Finally, in the afternoon 3V8 race, the Zags placed fourth at 6:32.46, while SCU 3V took first at 6:20.26, Santa Clara's 4V took second at 6:21.36 and UCSD took third at 6:27.26.
