Zag Track Programs Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

Both teams, six runners dubbed All-Academic

NEW ORLEANS, La. –  Three Gonzaga men's runners and three women's runners were named All-Academic athletes, and both programs received academic team recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday. Earning All-Academic status were Yacine Guermali, Cooper Laird, Cullen McEachern, Alicia Anderson, Kristen Garcia, and Caramia Mestler.
 
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
 
The GU men ranked 28th among Div. 1 men's programs with a 3.46 team GPA, while the women ranked 41st with a team GPA of 3.6. To qualify for the team academic award, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be 3.0 or higher.
 
Both University of South Alabama programs had the highest cumulative GPA out of any NCAA D1 program at 3.81. On the women's side, Creighton also recorded a 3.81.
 
Arkansas swept both Indoor National Scholar Team of the Year awards. The men posted a 3.092 cumulative GPA while the women maintained a 3.367. Both Razorback squads won the team title at the 2023 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Florida men's program won the Outdoor National Scholar Team of the Year award, holding a 3.12 GPA and winning the team title at the 2023 NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships. On the women's side, Texas won the award after maintaining a 3.41 cumulative GPA and winning the outdoor team title.
