KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Jasmine Wong and
Carys Baek led Gonzaga women's golf with 28
th place finishes at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii at Kapolei Golf Course.
Baek and Wong were two-over (218) in the 54-hole tournament that closed the fall schedule for the Bulldogs. GU finished 12
th as a team at 19-over (883).
Wong climbed 21 spots on the leaderboard after carding a 68 (-4) in the final round Wednesday. The freshman played bogey-free golf on the last day with four birdies and 14 pars. She opened the tournament with a 71 (-1) in Round 1 and was seven-over (79) in the second round. Wong was a tournament-best seven-under (4.42) on the course's Par-5 holes in the 92-golfer field.
Baek opened the event with a 68 (-4) in the first round, with five birdies and 12 pars. She followed with rounds of 76 (+4) and 74 (+2) Tuesday and Wednesday. The Langley, B.C., native's 39 pars were the fifth-most in the tournament.
Grace Lee placed 36
th at four-over (220). She finished one-under (71) in Round 1 and Round 3.
Esther Yoo and
Darby Rickel tied for 69
th at 14-over (230). Rickel, playing as an individual, had the only eagle for GU in the tournament, on the course's Par-5 17
th hole in the first round.
Taylor Mularski was 15-over (231) in 71
st place.
Lacey Uchida led Colorado State to the team title with her medalist finish. She placed first at 12-under (204). Carla Bernat of Kansas State was second at 10-under (206). Colorado State was 23-under (841) as a team and held of No. 28 Kansas State 20-under (844) for the title.
Gonzaga opens the Spring schedule at the Alice and John Wallace Women's Golf Classic hosted by Long Beach State. The tournament is at Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif., Feb. 15-17. Live scoring will be available on GoZags.com.
