PORTLAND, Ore. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team opened their conference schedule earlier this afternoon by facing the University of Portland. The Bulldogs earned their second victory in program history against the Pilots last season.
 
Gonzaga opened the singles competition strong, as Leon Roider and Pablo Gomez Galvan clinched a 6-4 court two win against Portland's Nicolas Ocana and Nikola Keremedchiev. Portland tied the doubles competition on court one, as Nikolas Tvedt and Luka Vukovic defeated Gonzaga's Matthew Hollingworth and Sasha Trkulja by a score of 7-6. In the No.3 spot, Portland's Oscar Brown and Stefan Skobelev clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 victory over Gonzaga's Gus Krauel and Oscar Rashed
 
Moving to the singles competition, Keremedchiev expanded Portland's lead by earning a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rashed on court five. Shortly after, Portland's Maxim Groysman picked up a 6-1, 6-3 court four victory against Gomez Galvan. Portland clinched the team victory in the No.6 spot, as Skobelev defeated Krauel by a score of 3-6, 6-1, 10-6.
 
Gonzaga continued to battle in the remaining singles matches. On court two, Ocana picked up a 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 win against Hollingworth. Vukovic also earned a victory, defeating Roider on court three by a score of 6-4, 7-5. In the final match of the day, Brown clinched a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Trkulja in the No.1 spot.
 
Up next: Following today's match, the Gonzaga men's tennis team will travel to California to face UC Irvine on March 23rd at 10 am. The Zags will also play against Pepperdine on March 24th at 2 pm.
