IRVINE, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team played a nonconference dual match against UC Irvine earlier this afternoon. The Bulldogs earned their first victory against the Anteaters during the 2017 season, when they defeated UC Irvine by a score of 4-0.
 
Starting with the doubles competition, UC Irvine's Brandon Park and Matthew Sah claimed a 6-1 win over Gonzaga's Gus Krauel and Oscar Rashed. Gonzaga tied the doubles competition on court two, as Pablo Gomez Galvan and Leon Roider defeated UC Irvine's Hiroki Sakagawa and Andy Nguyen by a score of 6-3. In the No.1 spot, Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth clinched the doubles point, defeating UC Irvine's Rahul Dhokia and Noah Zamora by a score of 6-3.
 
UC Irvine quickly tied the competition when singles matches began, as Dhokia earned a 6-3, 6-4 court five win over Rashed. On court four, Nguyen claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Galvan. UC Irvine took a 3-1 lead when Lawee Sherif defeated Gonzaga's Tom Dunlop by a score of 6-1, 6-4 on court six.
 
Gonzaga continued to battle in the remaining three singles matches. In the No.1 spot, Trkulja earned a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win against Sakagawa. Gonzaga tied the competition on court two, as Hollingworth continued his excellent season by claiming a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Zamora. UC Irvine clinched the team victory when Rithvik Krishna defeated Roider by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 on court three.
 
Up next: Following today's match, the Gonzaga men's tennis team will resume their spring conference schedule on March 24th, when they are scheduled to play Pepperdine at 2 pm. The Zags will return to the Stevens Center on March 29th, when Gonzaga will play Saint Mary's at 2 pm.

Records: Gonzaga's season record moves to 5-6 with the loss. For UC Irvine, their record on the year improves to 9-5 with the win. The historical record between the Bulldogs and Anteaters also moves to 1-11.
