MTEN: Bulldogs Upset #48 Pacific, 4-3

The Zags close out the regular season at home on Sunday

SPOKANE, Wash. – Earlier this afternoon, the Gonzaga men's tennis team hosted Pacific in a dual conference match. The Zags last hosted Pacific during the 2022 season, when they swept the Tigers by a score of 4-0.
 
Gonzaga jumped to an early lead in the doubles competition, as Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth earned a 6-3 court one win over Pacific's Justas Trainauskas and Peter Alam. Moments later, Gonzaga clinched the doubles point on court two, as Leon Roider and Pablo Gomez Galvan defeated Pacific's Andre Rodeia and Tommy Czaplinski by a score of 6-3.
 
With the doubles competition already clinched by the Bulldogs, the court three match between Gonzaga's Oliver Andersson and Gus Krauel and Pacific's Tiago Silva and Christof Schaetlin Coffey went unfinished, ending with a score of 6-6.
 
In the singles competition, Gonzaga expanded their lead when Hollingworth claimed an impressive 6-3, 6-1 court two victory against Silva. On court six, Czaplinski clinched a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gonzaga's Tom Dunlop. Pacific tied the contest on court five, as Rodeia defeated Andersson by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
 
Gonzaga continued to battle in the remaining three singles matches. Trkulja shined on court one, earning a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Alam. Pacific once again tied the match on court three, as Terence Das defeated Roider by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. In the No.4 spot, Gomez came back from a 2-5 deficit in the second set and a 1-4 deficit in the third set, clinching the team victory for Gonzaga with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 win against Amar.
 
Up next: The Gonzaga men's tennis team will celebrate Senior Day when hosting Santa Clara this Sunday, April 21st, at 10 am. Gonzaga also maintains a chance to advance to the WCC Championship, which will occur from April 25th through April 27th.

Records: Gonzaga's season record improves to 8-9 with today's victory. For Pacific, their record on the year moves to 16-3 with the loss. The historical record between the Bulldogs and Tigers also moves to 3-8 with today's result.
