Men's XC/TF Signs Nicholas Hoyer

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach Pat Tyson announced the addition of Nicholas Hoyer on Monday. Hoyer is an in-state signee who is set to join the Zags next fall as the men look to continue their success as one of the top teams in the tough NCAA West Region.

Hoyer signs with Gonzaga as he prepares to compete in his final track season at Mount Vernon High School. Last fall, Hoyer earned high placements throughout the cross country season, including top 50 finishes at Nike's Twilight Invitational and Hole in the Wall Invitational on back-to-back weekends before a strong postseason. On the oval, Hoyer owns personal bests of 1:54.79 in the 800-meters, 4:16.51 in the 1600-meters, and 9:29.05 in the 3200-meters.

"Gonzaga is my #1 choice academically and athletically. Coach Tyson's encouragement the past year has been incredibly motivating, and I cannot wait to learn from him and be part of the running community he has created," Hoyer said. "My sister, Taylor, runs for GU and has told me how amazing the school and team environment is. I am beyond excited to join the GU team."

Tyson on Hoyer:  "What I like about Nick is that he has the talent to develop into a very good Division-I athlete in our program.  He has great range from 800-meters up through 10-kilometers, and he is athletic enough to be a steeple guy too," Tyson said. "Nick is also a very good student."
