Men’s Tennis Completes First Day of UC Davis Aggie Invite

The tournament continues tomorrow

DAVIS, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team opened its fall season Friday at the UC Davis Aggie Invitational, showing grit and consistency throughout the first day of competition. 

In singles play, several Zags delivered standout performances. Oscar Rashed led the way with a strong comeback win over William Jessup's Mario Curiel, to take the match 4–6, 6–4, 6–1. 

Gus Krauel followed with an impressive straight-sets win over Lucas Pham of William Jessup, 7–6, 6–4 Diego Herrera added another win for Gonzaga, cruising past Martin Duris 6–1, 6–2.

Tom Dunlop faced a tough opponent in Nadaul Cheam of UC Davis, falling 1–6, 0–6 despite several tightly contested games that featured long exchanges and multiple deuce points. Dunlop rebounded in doubles play later in the day with renewed energy. 

In doubles action, the Zags demonstrated strong team chemistry and aggressive play. The duo of Gus Krauel and Oscar Rashed led Gonzaga with two victories on the day, opening with an 8–4 win and following up with another close 8–6 triumph to advance in their draw.  

Meanwhile, Giovanni Branchetti and Jay Fairclough added to the team's success, earning an 8–5 win in their opening round.

Play continues tomorrow morning in Davis, with several Zags advancing to the next rounds of both singles and doubles.
