SACRAMENTO- Gonzaga Women's and Men's Cross Country finished team competition on Friday morning by securing respective seventh and eighth place finishes in the NCAA West Regional Championship.
The GU Women's Cross Country Team was led to a seventh place team finish by Logan Hofstee, who ran a career best time in her second straight race, finishing in 19:36.7. Hofstee set the third fastest mark in the 6k in program history. Hofstee finished seventh overall in the west. She was joined in the top fifteen by Jessica Frydenlund, who captured 13th overall after running a time of 20:02.1. Hofstee and Frydenlund are both eligible to receive individual at-large bids to the NCAA Cross Country National Championship, which will take place in Columbia, Missouri on November 22nd. The official at-large bids will be announced on NCAA.com at 2pm tomorrow.
The women's team was anchored by a top 25 finish by Willow Collins, who finished her senior season in cross country with a 20:17.8 mark. The other scoring five runners included Alexi Fogo and Nina Yeats, who each finished in the top 50 individual places in the region after respectively running 20:45.1 and 20:48.6.
Gonzaga Men's Cross Country secured eighth in the west behind a new personal best in the 10k from Logan Schwartz. Schwartz, the WCC Freshman of the Year, ran a 29:54.4 race, setting the tenth fastest 10 kilometer mark in men's cross country history. Ryan Mitchell ran a personal best time of 30:18.8 to finish second for the Zags and 41st overall. Mitchell put his name down as the 17th fastest time in program history in his first career race at this distance. The top five scoring runners were rounded out by Logan Law (30:23.0), Bryce Cerkowniak (30:31.5) and Mason Kissell, who ran a personal career best time of 30:35.2.
