SPOKANE, Wash.- Four Gonzaga Baseball alumni were announced to World Baseball Classic rosters on Thursday night, with Zags representing three different countries in the premier international baseball tournament.
Alek Jacob was selected for the Italian national team. Jacob, a relief pitcher for the Padres, is making his first appearance in the WBC. He pitched for the Zags from 2018 to 2021.
Eli Morgan and Troy Johnston were both selected to represent the national team of Israel at Classic. Johnston made his MLB debut in the 2025 season and will play for the Rockies next season. He played first base in the MLB but is listed to play in the outfield, his position from his time at GU, during the Classic. Morgan, a Zag in 2016 and 2017, just signed a free agency deal with the Kansas City Royals.
Owen Wild has been named to the national team for Great Britain. Wild was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 7th round of the 2023 Draft. He has started 45 games in the Rays minor league system. Wild holds the Gonzaga program record for win percentage (.900) among qualified GU starting pitchers.
The World Baseball Classic will begin on March 5th and continue through March 17th. Games will be available to watch through via Fox and Fox Sports.
