Final Brackets
SEATTLE, Wash. - Roman Dojcak and Scott Sullivan each claimed Singles Consolation bracket titles as the Gonzaga University men's tennis team closed out its fall season in fine fashion on the final day of the PNW Intercollegiates hosted by the University of Washington Sunday.
Dojcak battled back from a first round defeat with three straight three-set victories over the past two days to claim the Singles Flight A Consolation bracket title. Dojcak opened the day with a come-from-behind 3-6, 7-6(5)(11-9) win over Fernando Mussolini of Eastern Washington in the semifinal match. He then produced another comeback victory, beating Idaho's Stas Glukhov 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 in the final.
"I am very proud of how Roman played this weekend," stated head coach Peter MacDonald. "He played the best tennis that I've ever seen him play. It was an incredible weekend for Roman who posted three very impressive wins to close out his fall season on a high note."
The same could be said for Sullivan who also bounced back from first round loss with four consecutive wins to earn the Singles Flight B Consolation bracket final. Sullivan followed up his two wins Saturday with two more Sunday to claim his title. He opened the day with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 victory over EWU's Kevin Anderson to advance to the final where he needed to recover from dropping the first set 6-3 by eventually taking the final two sets 6-4, 10-6 from Portland's Nick Wales.
"Scott also had an outstanding weekend," commented MacDonald. "He has continued to improve every weekend and this weekend he put together another solid tournament. He also played some great tennis and produced some really nice wins against some tough draws."
"I am very excited with how we finished the fall season this weekend,' stated MacDonald. "A number of players made some big strides at this tournament. We will use this weekend as something to build off of and look to carry this momentum into the spring."
Gonzaga opens the spring season at the University of Washington Jan. 14.
