OGDEN, UT - Gonzaga University junior Kyle Huus shot a final-round 74 Tuesday and tied for 10th at the Purple and Red Invitational men's golf tournament hosted by Weber State University.

Huus had rounds of 70-72-74 for a 54-hole score of 216 to finish in a four-way tie for 10th.

Freshman Travis Johnsen had a solid round of 1-under par 71 and finished tied for 19th at 219 after opening rounds of 72-76 Monday over the 7,174-yard, par 72 Valley View Golf Course. Jason Azzarito tied for 28th at 222 after a final-round 77.

Levi Garcia of Cal State Bakersfield captured medalist honors after shooting a final-round 64 for 207, two shots better than Jake Johnson of Sacramento State.

Gonzaga finished 10th in the team chase at 881, four shots out of seventh. The University of Utah captured the team title in a playoff with the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, both teams finishing at 867.

"Kyle is just steady Eddie," Gonzaga head coach Robert Gray said. "He just couldn't get some of his putts to fall today. Travis was 4-under at the turn but the wind kind of got him on the back nine. Jason played well most of the round, but he struggled down the stretch, missed some greens and had a hard time getting up and down."

Overall, Gray was pleased with the effort.

"We didn't play great but we showed signs of improvement," Gray said. "Right now we just lack the consistency. The early groups shot well, but we were one of the teams making the turn just as the winds came in," Gray said.

Gray liked the way senior Derek Cheney bounced back Tuesday with a 74, and freshman Kevin PArkhurst, playing as an individual, also shot a 74.

"Kevin has shown great improvement all three rounds here, and Derek came back strong and looks like he might be back to his old self again," Gray said.

The Bulldogs head right back to tournament action next week at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno hosted by the University of Nevada.
