CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team lost a hard-fought battle with Eastern Washington University 4-2 Tuesday night. Four Bulldogs (5-10) went home victorious in their matches.
Four Bulldogs played to a three-set match in singles. At the No. 1 position, sophomore Levin Guillermo lost the first set 6-4 but won the next two 6-4, 7-5 to earn his 12th singles win of the season. Senior Kevin Eischen lost the first set 6-4 at the No. 2 spot but won the second 6-3 to force a tiebreaker, which his opponent won 6-1. Senior Conor Feeney lost to similar results at the No. 3 position. He won the first set 6-4, won the second 6-3 but lost the third 7-6. At No. 4 singles, junior Zhia Hwa Chong won the first set 6-3 but his opponent bounced back and won the next two sets 6-4, 6-4.
Junior Scott Sullivan earned Gonzaga's second point with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 position and junior Jake Davis and his opponent Kyle Koetje did not finish their match at the No. 6 spot.
Sullivan and Chong picked up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles for Gonzaga's only doubles win. Davis and freshman Muzeen Ismath had a battle at the No. 2 spot but lost 9-8.
The Bulldogs head to the Bay Area this weekend to play three West Coast Conference matches starting with the University of San Francisco Friday at 9 a.m.
