KIRKLAND, Wash.—The Gonzaga University men's tennis team wrapped up its fall season Sunday, taking home one bracket championship during day three of the PNW Intercollegiates at Central Park Tennis Club in Kirkland, Wash.
Vladimir Mijatovic posted his first bracket victory of the fall, winning Flight 5 of the singles draw. He took the flight's championship match with a 6-4, 6-4 score over Portland's Jared Madison.
In the second singles flight, Nick Kamisar took Washington's Viktor Farkas to three sets, winning the first 4-6 before dropping the next two 6-4, 6-4. The appearance in the championship match was his second of the fall season. Hayden Smith also forced three sets in his Flight 4 championship, taking the first set via tiebreak 6-7 (3) but falling in the next two by 6-4, 6-4 scores. He fell to Boise State's Lewis Roskilly.
In the sixth singles bracket, Vicente Varas competed for the flight championship, squaring off against the Pilots' Jamie Fisher. Varas put up a fight but fell in that contest 6-4, 7-6. He and Sergio Chip also finished as runners up in Flight 2 of the doubles draw, falling to Wil Cochrane and Matt Pronesti of Portland State 8-6 in that bracket's final match.
In consolation doubles play, Kamisar teamed up with Alvaro Nazal and took on the Broncos' Brian Foley and Toby Mitchell. The pair from Boise State won that match 8-5.
With the end of the PNW Intercollegiates, the Zags also wrap up their fall tournament season. The next time they take the court in a competitive environment, they'll square off against Utah State to begin the dual season. That match against the Aggies will take place Saturday, January 17, 2015, at The Stevens Center in Spokane, Wash.
