Perkins comes to Spokane from West Linn, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. He currently plays for West Linn High School and made a deep run in the 2016 Oregon State Championships, reaching the semifinals and taking fourth overall. In 2015, he won the Three Rivers district title, and the year before, he reached the district tournament in doubles playas a freshman. Outside of interscholastic tennis, Perkins has seen success in USTAplay, winning the doubles title at the Umpqua Valley Level 4 Fall tournament, the singles flight at the Level 4 Boys tournament at VTC, and the Lewis & Clark Advanced Tourney title just within the last year. TennisRecruiting.net ranks Perkins as the third-best recruit in the state of Oregon and one of the top 15 among the entire Pacific Northwest. Why Perkins chose Gonzaga: "I chose Gonzaga because I felt like it was the perfect fit socially, academically, and athletically. When I visited the campus, I loved it and could see myself there. The incredible Stevens Center was just another reason why Gonzaga was attractive to me. I loved the team and am excited to join them. The coaches were phenomenal and I could see myself working with them for the next four years." Coach MacDonald on Perkins: "We are very excited Matt has chosen Gonzaga. He has a strong work ethic and a desire to continually improve, which is a good fit for the culture of the program." | |
