USD Downs Zags In OT

Oct. 15, 2017

Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Zags fell 2-1 in overtime at San Diego on Sunday afternoon, their first overtime loss in three matches this season.

The Zags held a 1-0 lead into the 69th minute thanks to a goal from Matt Kintzle in the 18th minute. He headed home the pass from Nick Ulowetz for his second of his young career. Ulber Perez tied the match at 69:54 and Miguel Berry scored the game-winner six minutes into overtime.

The Zags were outshot 22-4, but USD only put 11 of those shots on frame, with GU keeper Ben Willis making nine saves. Ulowetz, Kintzle, Jake Kempf, and Quinn Liebmann fired shots for GU. The Zags almost made it 2-0 at the 60:33 mark when Ulowetz's shot on goal was saved.

"We had a good first half, but USD is a very good team," Gonzaga head coach Einar Thorarinsson said. "We kept trying to get it in front of the goal, but didn't have enough opportunities. Our guys played hard, and it was great having Jalen Crisler back, he played great."

Gonzaga (6-6-1, 0-3-0 WCC) will take a 12-day break before returning to the pitch on October 27 at 7 pm against San Francisco. Live links are available at GoZags.com.
