SPOKANE, Wash. - The (RV) Gonzaga Bulldogs fell in their conference opener on Saturday night, 1-0, to Saint Mary's at home.

The game-winner came off a corner kick in the 56th minute for the Gaels, as the corner glanced off a Gael head before finding the foot of Tobias Clauss.

Gonzaga had a couple good opportunities in the first half and trailed in total shots by one, 11-10. Late in the second half, Brady Henderson had a header bounce off the crossbar after a Gonzaga corner kick, by far the best chance for GU to tie the match.

"We just failed to establish our rhythm on the attack tonight," Gonzaga head coach Einar Thorarinsson said. "Saint Mary's is excellent on the restarts and scored their goal that way. We will stay positive and look to bounce back."

Ben Willis made three saves for GU and fell to 6-4-1. The Zags led in corner kicks 7-4 and Colton Cavey led in shots with three.

Gonzaga (6-4-1, 0-1-0 WCC) will travel to Loyola Marymount on Friday, October 13 at 7 pm.
