No. 22 Zags Fall 3-0 To No. 16 Washington

Sept. 7, 2017

Final Stats

SEATTLE, Wash. â€" The No. 22 Gonzaga Bulldogs fell on the road to No. 16 Washington, 3-0, on Thursday afternoon at Husky Soccer Stadium.

The match, originally scheduled to be played Thursday night in Spokane but moved due to poor air quality, saw the Zags fire four shots, but they were unable to get any on frame. Washington scored once in the 16th minute, again in the 61st minute, and their final goal came in the 86th minute.

GU keeper Ben Willis and the Zags suffered their first loss of the season, as Willis had two saves between the pipes. GU was off to the best start since 2003. The best scoring chance for the Zags came in the second half when the UW keeper over-committed and Jake Kempf went around him, but the Husky defense recovered to keep him from getting a shot off. Ben White led GU with two shots.

"They had one of the better games I have seen them play. They were on their game and we were not," Gonzaga head coach Einar Thorarinsson said. "All their goals were really legitimate goals. We are hoping to stay home on Sunday and have a good home game."

The Bulldogs will be back at home against another west side team, Seattle U, at 1 pm at Luger Field. Live links are available at GoZags.com.
