SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's rowing team continues their fall schedule at the Portland Fall Classic on the Willamette River Sunday.
The annual event returns to Downtown Portland, and the Zags are back in the event for the first time since 2015. That year, GU took victories in four races. The Bulldogs entered five boats in the event and won all of them with the exception of one scratch on the day.
The Portland Fall Classic is a 5,000-meter race and co-hosted by the Rose City Rowing Club and the Station L Rowing Club. The head race runs behind the east side of Ross Island, ending just before the Steel Bridge. Action begins with the collegiate races at 8:30 a.m.
Gonzaga will face Portland, Washington State and Oregon State throughout the day.
"I rowed at Rose City in Portland where the race is, so I'm really excited to be back at my home course with the Gonzaga team and as a coach," GU Assistant Coach
Clare Manthey said. "I think it'll be a great race opportunity for the women to be on a different course and different conditions than we're used to. We'll be seeing University of Portland, who's in our conference, and Oregon State and Washington State. We also have some great inter-squad competition going right now, so we're excited to see how each boat handles this race."
