SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team had another strong showing on the second day of the Gonzaga Invitational Saturday at The Stevens Center. Both
Ruadhan O'Sullivan and
Bryan Husin advanced to the finals in their respective singles draws.
O'Sullivan picked up two wins on his way to the finals of the Blue Singles Draw, starting the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Portland State's Matteo Fortini. O'Sullivan then faced fellow Zag
Vincent Rettke in the semifinals after Rettke bested Utah's Mathias Gavelin 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. The pair competed for three sets with O'Sullivan coming out on top 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. O'Sullivan faces Sema Pankin of Portland Sunday.
Husin also picked up two wins on his way to the finals of the White Singles Draw, starting with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Montana State's Max Petrak followed by a 7-5, 7-6(7-4). Husin will face Portland's Leo Hibi Sunday in the finals.
Doubles play resumes Sunday at 9:00 a.m., and the Bulldogs have two doubles teams competing in the finals. O'Sullivan and
Sam Feit pair up in the finals of the Blue Doubles Draw and face Portland's Fortini and Branco at 9 a.m.
Kyle Everly and
Hunter Egger will also compete in the finals as they face Montana's Pontus Hallgren and Ludvig Hallgren in the Red Doubles Draw at 9 a.m.
