SPOKANE, Wash. – Senior Ruadhan O'Sullivan closed the fall season in style as he claimed the titles in both the Blue Singles and Blue Doubles Draw on the finals day of the Gonzaga Invitational inside The Stevens Center.
 
O'Sullivan paired up with junior Sam Feit Sunday morning against Portland State's Matteo Fortini and Lucas Castelo Branco. The duo made quick work of the Viking pair, dismantling them 8-4. O'Sullivan continued his undefeated run in singles play Sunday afternoon. In the last match of the tournament, O'Sullivan battled Portland's Sema Pankin for three sets.
 
"It was symbolic that Ruadhan [O'Sullivan] finished today winning the last match of the tournament in three sets," head men's tennis coach Jonas Piibor. "We are moving in the right direction as a program, and I know the guys are eager to get back working on their craft next week."
 
The pair traded the first two sets with O'Sullivan winning the first 6-4 and Pankin taking the second 6-3. In the third set, O'Sullivan was nearly unstoppable as he battled through for the 6-0 third-set win.
 
Simon Homedes Dualde and Bryan Husin also picked up a doubles win for the Bulldogs as the pair earned an 8-6 win over Eastern Washington's Martin Bats and Wout Doumen in the consolation finals of the White Doubles draw.
 
The conclusion of the Gonzaga Invitational also marks the end of the 2018 fall season for the Bulldogs. Gonzaga will return to the court in their spring season opener Saturday, Jan. 19 against Montana at 2 p.m. in The Stevens Center.
 
"It's a very important time for the next 10 weeks in terms of preparing ourselves for the dual season," Piibor said. "There are no secrets or shortcuts to be successful but loving to work and compete ever day, and our guys are learning that as we move along."
