BOISE, Idaho – The Gonzaga men's tennis team had a strong start to its season Friday afternoon at the Dar Walters Fall Classic in Boise, Idaho. All five of Gonzaga's doubles teams advanced to the round of 16 while three players advanced to the quarterfinals.
Gonzaga opened the day with solid doubles play as
Bryan Husin and
Michael Quinn paired up to defeat Whitman's Bear Lee and Mathhew Biggi 6-0 in the round of 64. In the round of 32, all five of the Bulldogs doubles teams won:
Matthew Perkins and
Kyle Everly defeated Portland State's Otto Holtari and Sahal Bukhari 6-2,
Ruadhan O'Sullivan and
Sam Feit bested Whitman's Nishaant Limaye and Jack Freer,
Hunter Egger and
Vincent Rettke bested Whitman's John Carter and Derek Simonsen 6-1, Husin and Quinn defeated Utah State's Sergui Bucur and Rithvik Bollipalli 6-1 and
Simon Homedes Dualde and
Emilio Moreno finished the day with a 6-1 win over Whitman's Rajul Chikkalingaiah and Andreas Mueller-Immergluck.
In singles play, O'Sullivan, Perkins and Feit all advanced to the quarterfinals of the Dar Walters Singles Main Draw. O'Sullivan posted a three-set win (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) over Boise State's Maximilien Blancaneaux while Perkins claimed a three set victory (6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3) over Utah State's Bollipalli. Feit defeated Montana's Ed Pudney in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 7-5) to advance to the quarterfinals.
