BOISE, Idaho – The Gonzaga men's tennis team saw ample success Saturday on the second day of the Dar Walters Fall Classic, hosted by Boise State in Boise, Idaho. Four Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals in the Greg Patton Doubles Main Draw while two players advanced to the finals in their respective singles draw.
"We did some good things today for sure," head men's tennis coach
Jonas Piibor said. "We won six of seven three-setters these past two days, which is something we can hold onto and build off of."
In doubles play,
Ruadhan O'Sullivan and
Sam Feit advanced to the semifinals of the Greg Patton Doubles Main Draw with a 6-2 win over Idaho State's Francis FIlipovich and Fynn Loshe;
Simon Homedes Dualde teamed up with
Emilio Moreno to defeat Boise State's Wyatt DeMulling and Ryland McDermot, also to advance to the semifinals.
In singles play, the Bulldogs picked up seven wins Saturday with two players advancing to the finals Sunday. O'Sullivan opened the day with a three set win over Weber State's Kris VanWyk (5-7, 6-3, 6-1) and met fellow Zag Feit in the semifinals of the Dar Walters Main Draw. Feit started with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Montana's Max Korkh; in the semifinals, O'Sullivan defeated Feit 6-3, 6-3 and faces Boise State's DeMulling Sunday.
In the Blue Singles Main Draw, Moreno picked up two wins to advance to the finals. Moreno opened the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Utah State's Mitchell Johnson and defeated Idaho State's Gergo Rendek 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the final; he'll face Montana's Ludig Hallgren Sunday in the finals.
Homedes Dualde and
Bryan Husin also picked up singles wins Saturday before falling in the semifinals of their respective draws. Homedes Dualde defeated Montana's Oisin Shaffrey in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-2) while Husin bested Montana State's Mateus Ceoline 6-0, 6-0.
"We're looking forward to finishing the tournament strong tomorrow," Piibor said.
