Box Score BOISE, Idaho — The Gonzaga men's tennis team took control of the match in singles to earn a 5-2 win over Montana State on a neutral court in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday.
The Zags (2-0) took home the doubles point, and then won four of the six singles matches to take down the Bobcats (0-1).
"It wasn't our best day at the office, but we got the win," head coach
Jonas Piibor said. "I give credit to Montana State for playing well, but we need to raise our level tomorrow against Boise State."
In doubles, it came down to the final court after the teams split wins on Nos. 1 and 3. On No. 3,
Kyle Everly and
Hunter Egger won 6-4 to set up the clinching match. On No. 2, GU's
Vincent Rettke and
Matthew Perkins got the job done with a 6-3 win and a 1-0 GU lead.
In singles,
Sam Feit earned a 6-4, 6-3 win on No. 1 and
Bryan Husin won 6-3, 6-1 on No. 6 to set up
Kyle Everly's clinching 6-3, 6-3 win on No. 5.
Rettke also added a singles win with a 6-4, 6-3 win on No. 3.
GU will be back in action in Boise on Sunday, taking on the host Boise State at 10 a.m.
