STANFORD, Calif. — Gonzaga doubles partners
Sam Feit and
Matthew Hollingworth had the program's deepest ever run at the ITA Northwest Regionals end in the doubles semifinal on Monday morning in Stanford, Calif.
"Sam [Feit] and Matthew [Hollingworth] had a good tournament and represented Gonzaga well," head coach
Jonas Piibor said. "I know they are very disappointed that they couldn't reach the same level today, but we give a lot of credit to the other team [Oregon]. We will keep working on being able to maintain a high level match after match."
After defeating a pair of seeded teams heading into Monday's semis against No. 2 seed Oregon, the GU pair wasn't able to get on track. The Ducks took home the win, 6-1, 6-4, before moving on to win the regional title later in the day.
The semifinal run by the senior Feit and freshman Hollingworth is the deepest in program history by a doubles team. The pair won four straight matches to reach the penultimate matchup.
Next up for the Zags is the Easley Memorial Championship at UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Nov. 1-3. Check GoZags.com for links to live coverage.
