PULLMAN, Wash. – Gonzaga women's tennis'
Haruna Tsuruta and
Tamara Anderson each advanced to the consolation final on the second day of action at the Cougar Classic in Pullman, Wash.
"Today we did a good job making necessary adjustments in singles to get better," assistant coach
Natalie Pluskota-Hamberg said. "As a collective group, I am pleased with the direction in which we are growing. It's always a special day when someone gets their first win as a Zag, and it was that day for Tamara [Anderson]. I'm really proud of the way she competed today and am excited for her future at GU."
Both Tsuruta and Anderson won two matches apiece to advance and will face each other in the consolation final of the Crimson Flight. Tsuruta defeated EWU's Zoey Nelson 6-0, 6-4, and then beat Peggy Rooke of Seattle, 6-2, 6-1. Anderson's first win of the day was her first as a Zag and came over EWU's Rylee Braeden 7-5, 6-4. She followed that up with a win over Hannah Gianan of Seattle in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, (10-8).
Katie Day also collected a consolation win with a victory over Mirte Van Baelen from Montana State, 6-3, 7-6(4).
