SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga men's tennis team advanced three players to bracket finals at the Gonzaga Invitational in Spokane and collected six more wins between doubles and singles at the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Saturday.
At the GU Invite, freshman
Matthew Hollingworth advanced to the finals of the Blue Draw with wins over Idaho's Brandon Hodge, 6-0, 6-1, and Portland's Sema Pankin 7-5, 7-5.
Gonzaga's
Matthew Perkins and
Bryan Husin will square off in the White Draw final after each won a pair of matches on the day. Perkins defeated Northern Colorado's John Giesberts in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarters and then beat Montana State's Chase Stoner in the semis, 6-4, 6-4. Husin, meanwhile, was dominant with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Montana's Josh Watkins and a 6-2, 6-2 win over Idaho's Vivek Ramesh.
Freshman
Brandon Park and senior
Kyle Everly each collected one win on the day. Park advanced to the semifinals in his draw with a win over UNC's Ed Pudney, 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Everly defeated Francisco Bascon 6-3, 6-2 in his second match of the day.
In Minnesota, GU also had four singles wins and two doubles wins on the day.
Eric Hadigian won twice in singles, defeating Wisconsin's Daniel Nuzhny 6-3, 4-6, (10-3) and DePaul's Luuk Wassenaar 6-2, 6-4.
Sam Feit took down Northwestern's Russell Berdusco 6-4, 7-6, and
Oliver Andersson beat DePaul's Tripp Tuff 6-3, 1-6, (10-3).
Hadigian and Andersson paired up for a doubles win over Wassenaar and Tuff of DePaul, 6-2, while Feit and
Theo McDonald beat Berdusco and AJ Joshi of Northwestern 7-6.
Gonzaga will wrap up action at both the Gonzaga Invitational at the Stevens Center and the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., on Sunday.
