Men’s Tennis Sweeps Navy 4-0

GU clinched the match with three straight-set singles wins

Box Score IRVINE, Calif. — Gonzaga men's tennis grabbed the doubles point and rode the momentum to three straight-set singles wins to beat Navy 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Irvine, Calif.

In a neutral site match, the bottom of the Gonzaga (9-4) lineup came up big as the No. 2 and 3 doubles each won, while the No. 3, 5 and 6 singles spots earned the victories to beat Navy (15-6).

"I'm happy with the win, but we are still not executing as a team," head coach Jonas Piibor said. "As we are sailing higher seas the rest of the season, we need a tougher and more consistent crew in all aspects that we are in control of. It's time for this team to understand that nothing will be given to them, everything has to be earned. We are looking forward to another opportunity on Friday."

Playing the No. 2 spot in doubles, Simon Homedes Dualde and Emilio Moreno earned a 6-4 win, and then at the No. 3 spot Kyle Everly and Vincent Rettke also won 6-4.

In singles, Homedes Dualde led the way from the No. 6 spot, quickly dispatching his opponent 6-1, 6-0 to make it 2-0. Shortly after, Moreno also won handily with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

At No. 4, Everly clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

Gonzaga continues its road swing with its next match in Seattle against the University of Washington on Friday, March 15, at 5 p.m. Links to live coverage will be available at GoZags.com.
