Men’s Tennis Breaks Through at USF, 4-1

GU won a pair of three-set singles matches to take down the Dons

Box Score SAN FRANCISCO — Gonzaga men's tennis took a solid 4-1 road victory on Friday afternoon at San Francisco.

The Zags (11-5, 2-1) earned the program's first West Coast Conference road victory with gritty play, taking the doubles point in a tiebreak and a pair of three-set singles matches to defeat the Dons (3-10, 0-4).

"The guys did a good job today, and I'm proud of them for securing the first conference road win for the program," head coach Jonas Piibor said. "That being said, we need to step up tomorrow against a good Santa Clara team."

After Kyle Everly and Hunter Egger won 6-2 to open doubles, USF tied it with a victory on No. 3. GU's top duo of Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Sam Feit then fended off their counterparts to win a 7-6 tiebreak on No. 1.

In singles, Feit answered a Dons victory with his own on No. 1, 7-6, 6-2, to give GU back the lead at 2-1.

The Zags' Vincent Rettke and Hunter Egger each showed their own toughness in singles as well, both coming back from down a set to help their team to the win. Rettke loss the first set 6-1, but came back with a 6-4, 6-1 finish. Egger was downed 6-3 in his first set, but dominated the final two, 6-2, 6-1 to win.

Gonzaga will be back on the road at Santa Clara on Saturday at 11 a.m. Check GoZags.com for available links to live coverage.\
