SPOKANE, Wash.—The Gonzaga men's tennis team remains undefeated following a 4-0 sweep of visiting Eastern Washington Friday evening inside the Stevens Center. The Zags improve to 8-0 at home with a 9-3 overall record on the season.
The Bulldogs started off with an impressive performance on all three courts in doubles play. On court two,
Theo McDonald and
Hunter Egger were first to finish, defeating Wout Doumen and Eric Sarlvik 6-2.
Sasha Trkulja and
Leon Roider solidified the Zags doubles point with a 6-4 win against Manuel Balce and Martin Bats at No. 1 doubles, and though Gonzaga had already won the doubles point,
Matthew Perkins and Pablo Gomez played their match out and won 6-4 at No. 3
"I thought we came out focused," said Perkins. "Overall, the guys played really well."
The Zags also had a solid start in singles play; Egger was the first Zag to finish at No. 4 singles. Egger defeated EWU's Bruno Ortega 6-2, 6-2. Trkulja finished close behind with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Balce on No. 1, while McDonald clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sarlvik at No. 5 singles.
"It's good to get another win at home," said Perkins. "We're excited to get back out here tomorrow!"
Gonzaga returns to the courts Saturday, March 20 with a double-header against visiting Nebraska-Omaha, inside the Stevens Center. The first match is set to begin at 11 a.m., while the second match will start at 4 p.m. Check GoZags.com for up-to-date match time information.
