SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team fell to visiting BYU 4-2 Saturday afternoon inside the Stevens Center.
BYU (10-5, 4-0 WCC) remained undefeated in West Coast Conference play, opening with the doubles point. The Cougars bested
Sasha Trkulja and
Leon Roider 6-3 to open doubles play, while
Matthew Perkins and
Matthew Hollingworth fell to BYU's Mateo Melendez and Brigham Andrus 6-4 to give BYU the doubles point. On court 1, BYU held a 5-4 edge in the match before it went unfinished.
In singles,
Oliver Andersson and Trkulja both secured victories for the Zags to open singles play. Andersson defeated BYU's Sam Tullis 7-6(7-1), 6-2 while Trkulja defeated Jack Barnett 6-2, 6-4. The Cougars won the next three singles matches to secure the 4-2 victory; Hollingworth led BYU's Sean Hill 7-6(7-5), 3-6, 2-1 when BYU secured the final point for the 4-2 victory.
