PALO ALTO, Calif. -- The Gonzaga men's tennis team opened up their performance in the ITA Super Regionals earlier today. With only singles competition being played on Friday, Gonzaga will have two pairs of doubles competing in the doubles Main Draw tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Opening up the action for Gonzaga, senior Oliver Andersson earned a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory over Washington's Nedim Suko in his Round of 32 singles match. In the Round of 16, Andersson battled, but lost his match against Stanford's Nishesh Basavareddy 6-0, 6-4.
Shortly after, Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja earned a back-and-forth victory over Oregon's Quinn Vandecasteele by a score of 6-4, 6-7, 7-6. In his Round of 32 match against Portland's Sema Pankin, Trkulja came up short, losing by a score of 7-6, 6-4.
Two other Zags competed in the singles competition Round of 32 of the Main Draw. Facing Washington's Cesar Bouchelaghem, Gonzaga's Arthus de la Bassetiere lost his singles match 7-6, 6-2. Gonzaga senior Matthew Hollingworth also performed in the Round of 32 earlier today, dropping his match against University of California—Berkeley's Ryder Jackson 6-1, 7-6.
Hollingworth and Bassetiere also participated in the singles Consolation Round of 16. Going up against Sacramento State's Mark Keki, Bassetiere lost the first set 6-1, then battled back to win the second set 7-6. In one of the longest tiebreakers of the season for the Zags, Bassetiere dropped the third set 16-14. Hollingworth closed the today's action for the Zags by beating Santa Clara's Guillaume Dalmasso 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets.

Gonzaga will continue their participation in the ITA Super Regionals tomorrow at 10 a.m., when Gonzaga's Leon Roider and Andersson face Oregon's Joshua Charlton and Vandesteele in their doubles Round of 16 match of the Main Draw.
Also at 10 a.m., Trkulja and Hollingworth will face Stanford's Filip Kolasinski and Neel Rajesh in their Main Draw Round of 16 doubles match. Hollingworth will also continue his performance in the Consolation singles bracket, as he is scheduled to face Stanford's Aryan Chaudhary later in the afternoon.
