SPOKANE, Wash. -- Today marked the beginning of the ITA North Regionals for the Gonzaga men's tennis team. This is the first time the Stevens Center has hosted an ITA fall tournament since the facility was opened in January of 2014. The Zags will also host the Gonzaga Invitation this fall at the Stevens Center, which will run from November 4th through the 6th.
Opening up with the singles competition, Gonzaga's Matthew Hollingworth moved onto the Round of 16 after earning a first-round bye and defeating Portland State's Simon Kuszynski by a score of 6-1, 6-1. In similar fashion, Gonzaga's Oliver Andersson found himself clinching a spot in the Round of 16 after earning a first-round bye and grabbing a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Washington State's Steven Paz.
Gonzaga's Tom Hann and Leon Roider both advanced to the Round of 16 after also having first-round byes. In his Round of 32 matchup against Seattle's Yu-Han Hsieh, Hann earned a 6-0, 6-3 win in dominant fashion. Shortly after Hann's victory, Roider also earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Portland's Cade Fernando.
As the only Zag to not earn a first-round bye in the singles competition, Gonzaga's Pablo Gomez Galvan battled hard, but lost a close match against Washington's Brett Pearson by a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

After having a first-round bye, Andersson and Roider will open up doubles competition for the Zags tomorrow at 9 a.m., when they face Portland State's Andrin Zuellig and Gregory Grunig in the Round of 16.
Gonzaga's Pablo Gomez Galvan and Arthus de la Bassetiere will also participate in the doubles competition tomorrow at 10 a.m., facing Portland's Fabian Gusic and Cade Fernando in the Round of 16 after each pair earned a first-round bye earlier today.
After doubles, Hollingworth, Andersson, Hann, and Roider will look to build on their excellent opening day of the ITA North Regionals by advancing farther in the singles competition. Later in the day, Gomez Galvan will also perform in the Consolation Round of 16 against Washington State's Bruno Ortega.
