SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga men's tennis team began their participation in the Gonzaga Invitational earlier today. For the second consecutive season, the Gonzaga Invitational marks the final fall tournament for the Zags, as the team will have a much-earned break before the spring duel season.
The Gonzaga Invitational began with multiple competitive singles matches. Opening up with the White singles Round of 16, Gonzaga freshman Gus Krauel picked up an excellent 6-3, 6-2 victory over Montana's Jake Watkins to advance to the White singles Quarterfinals. This is the furthest that Krauel has advanced in a tournament this fall season.
The White singles Round of 16 concluded with another Zag advancing to the Semifinals round. Facing Eastern Washington's Bruno Ortega, Gonzaga's Pablo Gomez Galvan clinched a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Today's win marks the second consecutive year that Gomez Galvan has advanced to the singles Quarterfinals of the White Main Draw.
As the singles competition continued with the Round of 16 of the Blue Main Draw, Two Zags advanced to the Quarterfinals round. Leon Roider, the first Gonzaga men's tennis player to advance to the Blue singles Quarterfinals, won his match against Montana's Moritz Stoeger 6-3, 6-4 in a convincing fashion.
Gonzaga closed out today's singles competition with two back-and-forth matches, both of which went to a third set. In the most competitive singles match of the day, Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja battled back from losing the first set 6-3 against Idaho's Mario Duron, and clinched a victory in the Round of 16 by winning the next two sets by a score of 6-2, 7-5. In the final singles match, Gonzaga's Tom Hann lost his match against Idaho's Taiyo Kurata by a score of 6-3, 0-6, 5-7.
Three pairs of Zags also performed in the Quarterfinals of the doubles competition. Playing against Montana's Josh Watkins and Jake Watkins, Krauel and Gomez Galvan advanced to the Blue doubles Semifinals with an impressive 8-6 victory.
Roider and Trkulja also advanced to the Blue doubles Semifinals with their 8-6 win over Montana's Gustav Thielgaard and George Russell. In the final doubles match of the day, Gonzaga's Martin Bats and Arthus de la Bassetiere battled, but lost their Blue doubles Quarterfinals match against Idaho's Taiyo Kurata and Francisco Gay by a score of 8-7.

In the White singles Main Draw, Krauel will face Idaho's Alejandro Salvador in the Quarterfinals, who advanced due to a withdrawal earlier today. Gomez Galvan will also look to advance to the White singles Semifinals, as he faces Portland State's Simon Kuszynski.
The Blue singles Main Draw will also showcase two Zags looking to advance to the Semifinals. Early tomorrow, Roider will face Idaho's Francisco Gay, and Trkulja will face Washington's Brett Pearson in the Blue singles Quarterfinals.
The doubles competition also continues tomorrow, as two pairs of Zags will look to advance to the Championship round of Blue and White Draw. Roider and Trkulja will play Idaho's Mario Duron and Bruno Casino in the Blue doubles Semifinals, and Krauel and Gomez Galvan will perform in the White doubles Semifinals.
