SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced the 2021-22 Women's Rowing All-Academic Team Thursday morning. Three Bulldogs were named to the first team, including
Clare Bretschneider,
Hannah Cooney and
Quinn Elsenbast. Seventeen Zags, a program record, also collected WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention Honors.
Bretschneider coxed the 2V8 boat during the majority of the season, including on the biggest stage at the NCAA Championships. She led the crew to a 19
th overall finish to help contribute to the team's 18
th place.
Cooney raced in the Varsity 8 for the whole season and was named to the All-WCC first team after capturing GU's seventh-straight WCC title. She competed in the 1V8 boat at the NCAA Championships as the crew finished 18
th overall.
Elsenbast also competed for the 2V8 boat for the Zags and sat in the one seat at the WCC Championships and the NCAA Championships in Sarasota, Fla. The boat finished first at the WCCs to help sweep the competition across the board.
All three of the Zags were also named to the CRCA Scholar-Athlete list earlier this month. The team captured its seventh-straight WCC title and 20
th championship in program history this year. The team swept the competition with placing first in all three races on the day at Lake Natoma to score 42 total points.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team and in at least their second year at their school.
