TUCSON, Arizona - The Gonzaga men's tennis team continue their success from last season by having an excellent first day at the Arizona Wildcat Open. This is the second consecutive season Gonzaga has participated in the fall tournament hosted by the University of Arizona.
Today's doubles competition opened with graduate student
Martin Bats and junior
Pablo Gomez Galvan withdrawing from their match against Northern Arizona University's Maciej Ziomber and Alexander Groves. Senior
Matthew Hollingworth and junior
Sasha Trkulja continue to build on the chemistry they developed last season in doubles, as they earned a dominate 6-1 victory in their match against Grand Canyon University's Jonathan Da Silva and David Wekesa.
As the singles competition began, Galvan continued to find success, as he defeated Wekesa 6-4, 6-4. In similar fashion, Roider earned a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory over Grand Canyon University's Paolo Rosati. Facing San Diego State University's Andre Saleh, Hollingworth earned another singles victory for Gonzaga by winning 6-4, 6-2 in straight sets.
Gonzaga's Andersson and Trkulja also earned victories in today's singles competition. Competing against Northern Arizona University's Facundo Tumosa, Andersson earned a gritty 6-3, 6-3 win. For Trkulja, he claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Grand Canyon University's Martim Marujo. In his singles match against New Mexico State University's Ryan Ford, Gonzaga's Bats was forced to withdraw due to injury.

The Arizona Wildcat Open continues tomorrow, with Roider and Andersson scheduled to compete in their next doubles match at 8 a.m. against Northern Arizona University's Daniel Torres and Morgan Donovan. Hollingworth and Trkulja will attempt to continue their dominance at 8:30 a.m, when they face Northern Arizona University's Facundo Tumosa and Maikel de Boes in doubles competition.
Gonzaga's singles matches will begin at 9:15 a.m., when Roider, Hollingworth, Andersson, and Trkulja look to advance past the semifinals.
