Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. – Earlier this afternoon, the Gonzaga men's tennis team faced Northern Arizona University in a nonconference dual match. Today's match marks the seventh meeting between Gonzaga and Northern Arizona, with the last meeting occurring during the 2018-19 season.
Opening with the doubles competition, Gonzaga battled against a tough Northern Arizona squad. On court three, North Arizona's Dominick Buzonics and Maciej Ziomber defeated Gonzaga's
Tom Hann and
Pablo Gomez Galvan by a score of 6-1. Northern Arizona clinched the doubles point when Maikel De Boes and Facundo Tumosa earned a 6-0 court one victory against Gonzaga's
Sasha Trkulja and
Matthew Hollingworth.
With the doubles point already clinched for Northern Arizona, the final doubles match between Gonzaga's
Leon Roider and Arthus Bassetiere and Northern Arizona's Piotr Galus and Alex Groves went unfinished, ending with a score of 2-5.
As the singles competition began, Gonzaga continued to show perseverance and grit against a skilled Northern Arizona men's tennis team. On court six, Northern Arizona's Dani Torres clinched a 6-3, 6-4 win over Gomez Galvan. Gonzaga earned their first team point of the day when Andersson defeated Buzonics 6-3, 7-6 on court three. The Zags tied the match when Hann picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win against Groves in the No.5 spot.
With the match tied at 2-2, the last three singles matches proved to be three of the most competitive thus far in the season. Northern Arizona earned their third team point after Galus defeated Bassetiere 6-4, 7-6 on court two. Shortly after, Gonzaga tied the match when Hollingworth earned a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 victory against Ziomber in the No.4 spot. Northern Arizona clinched the team victory when De Boes claimed a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 court one victory over Trkulja.
Up next: Following today's match, the Gonzaga men's tennis team will travel to San Antonio, as they are scheduled to conclude their nonconference schedule with a match against UTSA on March 15th at 9 a.m. The Zags will return to the Stevens Center to begin conference play on March 24, when they will face BYU at 3 p.m.

Records: The season record for the Gonzaga men's tennis team drops to 5-5 with today's loss. For Northern Arizona, their record improves to an impressive 9-2 on the year following the victory. Today's match also moves the historical record between the Zags and Lumberjacks to 4-3 in favor of Gonzaga.
