SEATTLE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team began the ITA Northwest Regional Championships today, with four Bulldogs punching their tickets to the main singles bracket.

Jay Fairclough, Tom Dunlop, and Kai-Luca Ampaw each received a first-round bye for singles qualifying, then won one match to advance. Fairclough and Dunlop easily dismantled their Seattle opponents in round two, while Ampaw dropped the first set against Oregon before rallying to take the next two frames.

Oscar Rashed also qualified for the main draw, triumphing against Santa Clara in a second-set tiebreaker and then advancing on a walkover — meaning his second-round opponent forfeited the match. Giovanni Branchetti is already in the main singles bracket without needing to qualify.

Gus Krauel won his opening bout over UC Davis in three sets, then fell to Pacific.

Up next: Competition continues through Oct. 22 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Washington at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, WA. The two singles finalists and doubles champions from this region will qualify for next month's NCAA Singles Championship and NCAA Doubles Championship in Waco, Texas.

Doubles play will begin tomorrow, along with the main singles draw.
