SEATTLE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team continued the ITA Northwest Regional Championships today, with the Round of 64 in both singles and doubles competition. On Friday, the Bulldogs had two singles players and two doubles pairings win matches to advance in their respective main brackets.
Jay Fairclough dropped his first set in singles play against Pacific, but handily won the next two frames, while Oscar Rashed took down UW in straight sets. Kai-Luca Ampaw, Giovanni Branchetti, and Tom Dunlop also competed in the main draw today, each falling in the first round.
In doubles, Kai-Luca Ampaw/Gus Krauel outlasted Seattle 8-6 and Jay Fairclough/Giovanni Branchetti beat Santa Clara 8-4. Oscar Rashed/Tom Dunlop dropped their match against UC Davis.
Up next: Competition continues through Oct. 22 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Washington at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, WA. The two singles finalists and doubles champions from this region will qualify for next month's NCAA Singles Championship and NCAA Doubles Championship in Waco, Texas.
