DENVER, Colo. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team opened the Colorado Cup today with dual-format matches against the host team, going 2-1 in doubles and 3-3 in singles.
Giovanni Branchetti/Jay Fairclough outlasted their University of Denver duo in a tiebreaker, while Gus Krauel/Kai-Luca Ampaw won 6-4 and Tom Dunlop/Oscar Rashed fell 6-0. The pairing of Branchetti and Fairclough is now 9-1 in doubles this fall season.
Friday's singles winners — Branchetti, Dunlop, and Krauel — triumphed despite each dropping their first set. Fairclough, Rashed, and Ampaw fell in tight contests, with the latter's match needing a third frame.
Up next: The Bulldogs continue the three-day Colorado Cup, hosted by the University of Denver at Denver Tennis Park. Gonzaga faces Air Force tomorrow and Penn on Sunday. Matches can be streamed here.
