DAVIS, Calif. -- The Gonzaga men's tennis team wrapped up the second day of the Aggie Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The day started off with doubles,
Giovanni Branchetti and
Jay Fairclough teamed up and won 8-5 over Sacramento State.
Kai-Luca Ampaw and
Fabio Stapper also played together and fell 8-4 to Cal Poly.
Tom Dunlop and
Oscar Rashed also competed together and fell 8-6 to Saint Mary's.
In singles, Branchetti competed Saint Mary's and had a three set battle, but fell, 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (2). Rashed played Sacramento State and won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals in his bracket. He went onto the semifinals before falling in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 5-7.
Ampaw won in the quarterfinals against Santa Clara, 6-4, 6-4, and moved on to the semifinals round. In the next round, he competed against Cal Poly and went to three sets. He ultimately fell, 3-6, 7-6, 4-6. Fairclough also competed against Santa Clara in the quarterfinals, but came out just short at 6-2, 6-3.
Gonzaga also competed in extra matches in the morning outside of the scheduled brackets. Stapper played Cal Poly and won 2-6, 7-6 (2), 12-10. Dunlop also started a match before having to retire against Cal Poly.
