AZUSA, Calif. –  The Gonzaga track teams continued Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Cougar Athletic Stadium, racing in the 5000m and 800m events on day two. The Bulldogs will wrap their week in California on Friday with the 1500m.
 
A trio of Zag men raced early Thursday morning, as Ansel Tucker, Aidan Baughan, and Joshua Augustine competed in the Open "B" section of the 5000m. Tucker PR'd with a 14:27.25, Baughan finished in 14:45.00 and Augustine ran a 15:15.50.
 
In the Open "C" section of the women's 5000m, Anika Jones ran a personal best time of 17:23.45.
 
Ellie Armbruster was the lone Bulldog in the 800-meters this week in Azusa, setting yet another program record in the event with a 2:06.96, a time that places her comfortably in the NCAA West qualifier rankings.
 
The Gonzaga men saw four PRs in the Open "A" section of the 5000m, led by Samy Anderson's 14:05.05 and Drew Kolodge's 14:05.97. Ryan Mitchell ran a 14:07.76 PR, and Mason Kissell ran a 14:16.66 PR. Logan Law recorded the fastest time in the section but missed a PR with his 14:04.61.
 
Willow Collins was first in the late window Thursday night, competing in the second heat of the 5000-meter Invite. The junior completed a three-second PR with a 15:50.47, improving her spot at No. 2 all time on the program Top Ten list.
 
Bryce Cerkowniak was the final Zag on the track, running a 14:25.24 in the fourth heat of the men's 5000-meter Invite.
 
WEDNESDAY
Will Thorsett and Caleb Richardson led off for the GU men on Wednesday in the 10,000m Open B sections. Thorsett, despite having his shoe clipped off early, managed a PR with a 30:34.46. In the following heat, Richardson improved his PR by over one minute with a 30:53.80.
 
The men's 3000m Steeplechase was next for Gonzaga, with Paul Talens looking to move up in the West Qualifying Top 48. Ranked 47th entering the week, Talens dropped an 8:49.81 to move into No. 6 on the program Top Ten list while climbing higher in the Top 48 and likely securing his spot into the NCAA West Prelims.
 
Cooper Laird, after an 8:49.25 two weeks ago at Stanford to likely punch his own ticket, ran an 8:50.61 on Wednesday, while Sean Janecko PR'd in the early heat with a 9:02.06.
 
Kate Donaldson and Camille Broadbent were first up for the Zag women at Bryan Clay, competing in the steeplechase later in the afternoon. Broadbent PR'd for the second time in 12 days, finishing in 11:15.58 before Donaldson ran a 10:50.97 in the next heat.
 
UP NEXT
After wrapping tomorrow in Azusa, Gonzaga will head separate directions next weekend as the women travel to Des Moines for the Drake Relays while the men return to Stanford for the Payton Jordan Invitational.
