STANFORD, Calif. – Gonzaga women's track's
Ellie Armbruster was the lone Bulldog on the track Saturday at the Stanford Invitational, but she took her turn in rewriting the record book by breaking her own 800-meter record on Day Two at Cobb Track. In total, the Zags tallied 12 new Top Ten entries and put themselves in prime position for NCAA West Regional qualifiers later this season.
Armbruster raced in the fourth section of the women's 800m on Saturday, placing fourth in that heat with a new program record time of 2:08.28. Her previous record came late last season at the Portland Distance Carnival when she ran a 2:08.51.
FRIDAY AT STANFORD
Gonzaga made waves all day Friday at Stanford beginning early with
Ryan Mitchell, who earned a six-second PR in the 5000-meters with a time of 14:18.39.
The GU women got things going in the 1500-meters led by
Anna Grabowski's 4:23.52, a time which ranks fourth all-time in program history.
Ireland Robertson also jumped into the Top Ten, finishing in 4:26.95 for spot number nine.
Keira Saavedra made her outdoor debut with a time of 4:40.87.
In the men's 3000-meter Steeplechase, all three Bulldogs just missed PRs.
Cooper Laird finished in 8:49.25 in the fastest heat,
Paul Talens finished in 9:01.85 in the second heat, and
Sean Janecko finished in 9:14.93 in the third heat.
In one of two later 1500m heats,
Willow Collins was two seconds shy of a PR, finishing in 4:18.28.
Logan Law was next up for the Bulldogs to open the later window at Stanford, recording the ninth-fastest 5K time in program history and finishing in 13:54.98.
Gonzaga's big finale began in the fastest heat of the women's 10,000m, where
Rosina Machu,
Logan Hofstee,
Jessica Frydenlund, and
Alexi Fogo were set to compete. Machu placed sixth overall with a time of 32:33.18, breaking her previous program 10K record. Hofstee earned the new number three mark with a time of 33:17.80, Frydenlund earned the number four mark with a time of 33:27.21, and Fogo earned the number six mark with a time of 33:45.43.
Wil Smith and
Bryce Cerkowniak followed up in the fastest heat on the men's side. Smith placed fifth overall (27:53.19), dropping under 28 minutes for the first time in his career and solidifying his number two time on the program Top Ten list. Cerkowniak just missed a PR, finishing in 28:51.86.
Jade Rypkema was the fifth and final Zag woman in the 10,000-meters, recording a time of 34:45.01 and making it a perfect 5-for-5 night for GU, as her time ranks ninth-all time in program history.
The Zags weren't done just yet.
Drew Kolodge and
Mason Kissell were the final Bulldogs on the track Friday, racing in the final heat of the men's 10K. Kolodge finished in 29:00.13, entering the program Top Ten at number five, while Kissell finished in 29:14.57 to enter the list at number six.
