Oct. 15, 2016 USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals Draws
BERKELEY, Calif.--The Gonzaga men's tennis team began consolation play at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals Saturday with four Zags and one doubles team seeing action at the tournament hosted by California.
Freshman Simon Homedes Dualde came away as Gonzaga's big winner Saturday as he won both a singles match and a doubles contest. Individually, the Barcelona native downed Pacific's Nathan Hampton in straight sets, taking the first 6-4 and sweeping through the second 6-0. It's Homedes Dualde's first win against a West Coast Conference foe.
In doubles play, he teamed up with fellow freshman Sam Feit to beat Eastern Washington's Flavien Raveau and Ricardo Almeida 8-6. It's the pair's first doubles win of the weekend.
Three more individuals were also in play Saturday in the Bay Area. Senior Ronzai Saurombe took Washington's Kawika Lam to three sets, winning the middle frame in a tiebreak at 6-7 (3) before falling in a third-set super tiebreak. Meanwhile, Feit and fellow freshman Kyle Everly each lost in two sets during their consolation matches.
The Bulldogs will wrap up the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals on Sunday, Oct. 16, with the final rounds of consolation play.
