Duck Invitational Final Results

EUGENE, Ore.--Kyle Everly and Sam Feit closed the Gonzaga men's tennis team's tournament season with consolation bracket titles Sunday, each of them winning their final matches of the Duck Invitational in Eugene.

Everly won the Yellow Singles Consolation title with a pair of victories over University of Portland opponents. In the semifinals, he downed Ethan Ogard in a super tiebreak at 6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (7) to advance. The freshman then lined up against the Pilots' Andrew Newell in the championship, falling in the first set 4-6 but taking the second 6-4 to force another third set super tiebreak. That too saw extra tennis, but Everly won the final two points for an 11-9 tiebreak win and consolation title.

Feit, meanwhile, posted a pair of two-set wins to claim the Green Singles Consolation title. He opened the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Nevada's Kostya Nesterenko. In the final, he squared off against West Coast Conference foe Felix Fan, also from Portland. After an extra game, Feit took the first set 7-5, and he doubled up Fan in the second 6-3 for the win, his 10th of the season.

Two Zag doubles pairs reached the consolation semifinals with their play on day two of the tournament, but no doubles consolations matches were played Sunday.

"The guys improved a lot over the fall season," said Gonzaga men's tennis head coach Peter MacDonald. "They got a lot better at being aggressive out of their serves and finishing at the net. This tournament was a good finish to the fall."

With the end of the Duck Invitational, the Bulldogs also wrap up their fall tournament slate. They'll return to action after the winter break with the 2017 spring dual season. That begins on January 21 against Utah State in Seattle.
