Gonzaga Notes

Saturday, April 8vs. Portland3:00 pmLive StatsLive Video

A WEEKEND IN STEVENS:

  • The Zags played a pair of home matches last weekend, falling to then-No. 49 San Diego 4-1 Friday before a 4-0 loss to BYU a day later...freshman Sam Feit claimed the Zags' point against the Toreros, and he was a game away from victory versus the Cougars as his match was halted at 7-6, 5-4...the freshman duo of Kyle Everly and Vincent Rettke also picked up a 6-4 doubles victory on court two against BYU.

SPO-PORTLAND:

  • Gonzaga and Portland have met at least once during every season of the new millennium, and the Bulldogs are still looking for their first win against their closest conference rival...Portland is 24-0 against GU since the year 2000...the Zags have taken at least one point in each of the last eight matches, however, including one in a two-set singles win by Ruadhan O'Sullivan last year in Portland...two years ago, the Zags took the doubles point and one of the singles points in a 5-2 loss at home to the Pilots.
  • The Pilots enter the weekend ranked No. 41 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and are the Zags' third ranked foe of the season...Portland has won its last 10 matches, including all four WCC contests they've played this season...GU and UP shared three common non-conference foes: Idaho, Sacramento State, and Eastern Washington...the Pilots won all three of those matches while the Zags posted wins over Idaho and Eastern Washington.
  • No. 1 singles player Mike Pervolarakis leads the Pilots with a 14-1 record in dual play, good enough for a top 100 ranking by the ITA...Felix Fan is second at 12-1 at Nos. 5 and 6, while Mathieu Garcia is 12-2 at No. 2 singles...in doubles, the Pilots are 24-13 overall, topped by Garcia and Pervolarakis with a 9-3 mark on court one.
  • The Zags and Pilots both competed in four of the Bulldogs' five tournaments last fall, playing 16 singles contests and four doubles matches...Gonzaga players came away with a 10-6 record individually with all six Zags that played a Pilot winning at least one match...Ruadhan O'Sullivan went 2-0 against his two Pilot foes, and Kyle Everly topped the squad with three Fall wins versus Portland...the Pilots won all four doubles matches.

ON PAIRS PLAY AND ON SUPERIOR:

  • Gonzaga has won nine doubles points this season, three more than last year's total...the Zags are two shy of the recent program high of 11 set during the 2010 dual year.
  • The No. 3 doubles team of Ronzai Saurombe and Simon Homedes Dualde leads the team with an 8-5 record overall and 7-3 mark in their last 10 duals...they're 5-1 in home duals this season.
  • Gonzaga is 4-3 in home duals inside The Stevens Center (located at 1202 N. Superior Street a few blocks away from campus) this season...the Bulldogs have gone at least .500 in each of the four dual seasons for which The Stevens Center has been open.
  • In his two years as a Zag, sophomore Ruadhan O'Sullivan is 15-3 in singles matches inside Stevens...he's 15-3 when also considering fall tournaments...freshman Sam Feit has the best home dual singles record on the team this season at 5-1...fellow freshman Vincent Rettke is a half-game behind at 4-1.
